At the rate we are going, a family of four that earns $60K/year will have to pay $80K/ year for health insurance.
  • Re: new rumor
    Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:20:33 GMT
Sounds about right. That\'s 132K for someone with 30 years. My original guesstimate was 150K for pension-eligibles. For someone with 35 years, that\'s about 2 years base salary. Fair offer.
  • new rumor
    Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:20:33 GMT
the buy out is $4,400 for every year completed, with no 30 year cap. Not official but from a good source.

  • Craig Moffett of S C Berstein on Bloomberg ....
    Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:01:39 GMT
Pimm Fox\'s Taking Stock program. Mr. Moffett is dramatically negative on Verizon. The wireline business is in a secular decline, the wireless business has slowed to 0 - 5% growth rate. Margins on the wireline and wireless sides are declining. After $23 billion in capex, FiOS will serve only 14% of the cable market. Bottom line: Even with wireless (and the data boom), Verizon is NOT a growth company. He ended his interview quickly and negatively on VZ. I must say that after over 25 years of holding Verizon (GTE), I now am as inclined as ever about divesting or diversifying my portfolio away from a high-VZ weighting.

http://www.herald-review.com/business/local/article_c3c549d4-2bb0-11df-9de5-001cc4c002e0.html Home / Business / Local Judge blocks Verizon land line sale to Frontier By KURT ERICKSON - H&R Springfield Bureau Chief | Posted: Tuesday, March 9, 2010 1:18 pm | No Comments Posted SPRINGFIELD - Verizon\'s bid to sell of a massive chunk of its land-line telephone business in Illinois hit a significant roadblock Tuesday. An administrative law judge ruled that the planned sale of Verizon\'s land-line service to Frontier Communications should not be approved by state regulators. The deal between the two telecommunications companies affects nearly 600,000 customers in all areas of the state. Bloomington, Carbondale and scores of smaller communities are served by Verizon. The Illinois transaction is part of an $8.6 billion restructuring aimed at allowing Verizon to turn its focus more to cell phones. In all, Verizon is trying to sell a total of 4.8 million local access lines in 14 states to Connecticut-based Frontier. In her ruling, Administrative Law Judge Lisa M. Tapia says evidence presented in the case in front of the Illinois Commerce Commission doesn\'t support the sale, primarily because the transaction would leave Frontier too laden with debt to be able to properly manage the lines and other infrastructure. \"The proposed reorganization will diminish Frontier\'s ability to provide adequate, reliable, efficient, safe and least-cost public utility service,\" the order notes. Among those fighting the proposed sale were Attorney General Lisa Madigan\'s office, the Citizens Utility Board and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. CUB executive director David Kolata said evidence presented in the case showed there were questions whether Frontier could maintain reliable service and keep rates low. \"We wanted to make sure consumers are protected,\" Kolata said. A final decision on the proposal by the commerce commission, which could amend or adopt Tapia\'s report, is expected by late April. Representatives of Verizon and Frontier did not immediately return messages requesting comment on the decision. Illinois isn\'t the only state where the deal has raised eyebrows. The proposal drew opposition in West Virginia from labor unions and the attorney general over concerns about the cost and quality of service once the transition from Verizon to Frontier is complete.
