  We couldn\'t go the iphone route..........even on the I-5 corridor.......service is way too spotty. Verizon may not look good, but they\'re in better shape than any of their competition.....

  Saddled with old line management and labor contracts while every component of their business is flat or in decline. And they\'re doing exactly what Sprint did, cut staff to protect the cash flow and reduce rates to match the lower priced carriers. They\'ll no doubt end up where Sprint is, bottom feeding for the prepaid market. If fios doesn\'t catch fire they\'re cooked.Without the I phone and Apple none of these companies can compete in the profitable segments of the market.Even the business community is converting to the I from the blackberry. The dividend is a gimmick that\'s artifically holding the price up. They can\'t pay it at these rates much longer while shrinking in size and watching their profits disappear. And the more they cut staff, the more their service looks like Sprints.

  Moffett is candidly telling the story. How can some bone heads not see that VZ is a loser. The comapny is way top heavy with highly paid managers who continue making horrible decisions, all the while collecting their neat bonus. Surplusing 12,000 in just the East Division is certainly no indication the way forward is paved with gold. Subscriptions are decreasing across the board. Business customers still can\'t get expansion loans and residential customers are fed up with worsening service levels - as confirmed by customer satisfaction surveys.DSL and FIOS deployments are frozen due to costs in most footprints. To save his own ass, Seidenberg declare the surplus - hoping to use the wages saved figures to mask lousy sales. Don\'t forget - Seidenberg is also the idiot that supported Genuity with $7B of Verizon funds before it went belly up. Any other respectable DOW component company would have fired those responsible. All of them are still very much there - making huge salary and bonus.
