  NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS) Chief Financial Officer Braxton Carter said a combination with fellow pre-paid wireless carrier Leap Wireless International Inc. (LEAP) is appealing, but declined to comment further on whether such a deal was on the table. \"Obviously, we\'re very interested in the combination of our companies,\" Carter said during an investor conference on Wednesday. MetroPCS attempted to acquire Leap in 2007. Carter noted that a lot of the factors that made the deal attractive back then are irrelevant now, but said there remained a lot of positive reasons for a merger. Carter declined to provide further insight into whether the companies are in talks. Both MetroPCS and Leap have hired bankers to advise them on their options. The carriers, which charge customers in advance and serve the low end of the wireless market, have each faced increasing competition from larger players looking for a slice of the faster-growing segment. Earlier this year MetroPCS changed its pricing plans, offered larger discounts on handsets and changed how it compensated its distributors. The changes have been received well by both the dealers and consumers, Carter said. \"We\'re happy with what we\'re seeing so far,\" he said. In laying out its plans for a fourth-generation, or 4G, network, Carter said he expects to have many of its markets covered by Long-Term Evolution, or LTE, technology by the second half, with more markets next year. Carter said MetroPCS is working with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNHY, 005930.SE) for a LTE handset. The company plans to focus on LTE phones over data cards, he said.

  Oh this boost dealer is back with his BS. Things were so \"good\" at boost that they needed to start selling CDMA phones. What\'s that say about the \"iden\" line up. Seems to me people will get tired of the push to talk lineup and churn off. Have you looked at the performance of sprint stock? Under $4! $20B of debt! Comical!

  METROPCS Metropcs is struggling more than ever. Very hard for them to keep the customer database. I spoke to exec at Plano Texas office. Metropcs is trying to keep the current customer base in hopes of either be bought out or buy someone out. If pcs buys another pre-paid or even invest in new technology it would be hard to show good profit records. Pcs pretty much ruin the market by coming out with no contract unlimited. but pcs lacked the network and pissed off the big providers. so now you have the bigger networks like att, verizon and specially i say this again specially Sprint prepaid selling as boost mobile has had big hurt on metropcs database. I spoke to boost mobile in california. well keep in mind that sprint owns boost mobile and now they are coming out will the cdma products on boost. next coming up handsets are sanyo pda. in june they have the droid/htc/google phones coming out. sprint bought out virgin and in boost store they are offering no contract datacard with 3g speed and only $60 per month for 250 hours per month. boost has more handsets coming than metropcs can handle. keep in mind that sprint has bigger buying power than metro. so there will be phones on special pricing in boost stores. not to mentions many pcs dealers are selling boost in their location except the exclusives. but overall product with sprint is much better. Worst thing for boost is that they ran out of stock on sanyo incognito. the cost on this phone is less than $100 and dealers are sellng them for $240 in store. huge profits being made with boost. the curves i asked 1 dealer in florida. he is banking at least $130 profits on curves. keep in mind whats goes up always comes down. metropcs started the war on discount rates and unlimited call. now you have guys like sprint promoting pre-paid. another f.y.i. is that sprint is focusing 60% on pre-paid market. 2010 is nothing but a battle on network, the G\'s network and handsets. i have heard a rumor that boost on their cdma will start no roaming all across united states soon. also international calling coming towards this year. not to mention that boost is opening up warranty center only to exclusive boost store. i think it is much better to sell metropcs now and buy into sprint stock symbol P. because p will go up on every quarterly reports.

  They will not merge with LEAP. Let the rumor run and help bring up PCS\' stock price. Few investors have really looked at the numbers to come to the conclusion that LEAP will continue to lose money and is a poor investment. The only way that I can see LEAP and PCS ever merge is with no cash outlay, and PCS then assumes the debt, the customers, and the spectrum. Even this, in my opinion, wouldn\'t be a great deal, but one that PCS shareholders could probably live with.
